’SHAHADAH’ by Safia Malik

Shahadah or Kalimah is the first pillar of Islam. It is a declaration of faith in the Oneness of God (The Creator) and the acceptance of Prophet Muhammad PBUH as the messenger of Allah.

Transliteration: lā ʾilāha ʾillā llāh muḥammadun rasūlu llāh
Translation: There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Whoever says: there is no god but Allah enters Paradise.” [Nasa’i & Tabrani] The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “The best remembrance of Allah is to say: There is no god but Allah.” [Ahmed & Abu Dawud]

THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS STATEMENT:

• It is the statement that is whispered into the ears of the newborn

• It is the statement that is also whispered into the ears of the dying person

• It is the statement that every person who accepts Islam utters to enter in the fold of Islam
